Newsletters. A newsletter is an ideal way to communicate
with specific groups of people: employees, alumni, clients. If you can
have a mailing list, you also have a perfect opportunity to remind people of
your organization's role in their lives.
To be successful, though, both the content and style
of a newsletter should be tailored to meet the needs of both your organization
and the people who receive it.
Widener University
School of Law magazine
"Professional Practice: Just Teach? Not
at Widener Law" / Most universities hate the
entire Ivory Tower concept. Their students (and prospective students) want
to be hip, current and on top of things. That is where the schools must
be, too. And that was my between-the-lines assignment when editors with
Widener's law school magazine asked me to interview faculty members about what
they were doing besides teaching.

Hahnemann University
Magazine
"MILITARY MEDICS: Hahnemann Alumni Recall Fields of
Battle"
/ This
is a feature I wrote for Hahnemann University magazine, a quarterly
publication reaching alumni of this Philadelphia-based medical college.
Based on interviews with Hahnemann alums who had served as physicians and
surgeons in World War II, Vietnam and the Persian Gulf, the story examined how
battlefield medicine changed -- and remained the same -- during those conflicts.

CLS Navigator
CLS Corporation was a privately held company which specialized in outsourcing
the backroom lending operations of small banks. Without
having to hire a bunch of underwriters, these banks could, thus, afford to offer
a wider variety of loans and better compete with large lenders.
Published quarterly, the CLS Navigator focused
on client-bank success stories, news and commentary about lending trends.

The Knoblauch Capsule
A
key element in Knoblauch Bank's campaign to target "high net worth “ individuals
(physicians, lawyers, business owners) with personalized services and
"flexible" lending policies, The Knoblauch Bank Capsule
was a quarterly newsletter that I researched, wrote and edited for this small,
privately owned Reading, PA-based financial institution. Content focused
on Knoblauch clients and how the bank had contributed to their
success.

Tip:
If your organization is going to publish a
newsletter, do so at least quarterly, i.e., four times a year. Less, and
your audience will say, "What's this?"
